LIFepoint worship team Core Values + expectations

This page is a guide to who we are as a worship team at LifePoint Church. It's more than a handbook—it’s a reflection of our heart, our values, and the expectations we hold as a team that help lead others into the presence of God. Whether you're new to the team or have been serving for years, this is a place to realign and remember what we're about.

💙 Why Being on the Worship Team Is Awesome

Serving on the worship team is a unique and beautiful calling. We don’t just play music—we help create space for people to encounter Jesus. Week after week, we get to:

  • Help lead our church in moments of genuine worship and response to the Lord.
  • Use the gifts God has given us to glorify Him.
  • Be part of a team that feels like family—where encouragement, growth, and fun are part of the culture.
  • Join in what God is doing at LifePoint as we seek Him together.

It’s not about performance—it’s about pointing people to Jesus and being transformed ourselves in the process.

🎵 Why We Sing

  • God commands it. Scripture is filled with calls to sing (over 400 references, including 50 direct commands). Singing is part of how we respond to God’s greatness (Psalm 96, Colossians 3:16).

  • Singing shapes us. It helps the truth of God's Word dwell in us deeply. When we sing Scripture-rooted songs, we’re forming our theology and strengthening our faith.

  • Singing unifies us. When we worship in one voice, it brings us together across preferences, experiences, and personalities.

💡 Worship Team Core Values

🎯 Jesus Is the Center

Our team exists to lift up Jesus—not songs, skill, or style. Every part of what we do is about helping people see and respond to Him.

❤️ Character Over Skill

We value technical growth, but it will always take a back seat to character development. Your heart matters more than your ability.

If someone’s character or actions do not reflect Christ, we will take that seriously. At times, this may mean asking someone to step down from the team temporarily or permanently. This is never for punishment, but for the benefit of the heart. Your heart being right with God matters more than your passion on stage. We will always put that first.

💪 Team Health Matters

We care more about the health and unity of the team than a perfect performance. We’d rather have one person leading with a guitar and a healthy heart than a full band whose lives are openly or secretly a mess.

This is not about perfection. No one shows up fully engaged, every week, all the time. We all have bad weeks. But there is a difference between having a tough week and being spiritually disengaged. If you're walking through a difficult season, talk with someone on the team or with leadership. You're not alone.

🤝 Every Role Matters

Whether you're a vocalist, instrumentalist, sound tech, slide operator, or video team member—you are essential. Every person helps create the environment for worship.

🗣️ Feedback Culture

  • Praise publicly. Critique privately.

  • Encouragement is the default. Let’s call out what’s good and celebrate each other often.

  • You can only give feedback to the level of your investment or your invitation in a person’s life.

❌ Remove Distractions

We gladly lay down anything that distracts from elevating Christ—this includes overplaying, distracting attire, or an attitude that puts self over the team.

👕 What We Wear

Our goal is to keep attention on Christ, not ourselves. Clothing should be modest, clean, and non-distracting. (If you’re ever unsure, ask!)

🏠 More Than Just Serving

We are active members of LifePoint—not just when we're on the schedule. We’re a community, not just a rotating group of volunteers.

🙏 Spiritual & Lifestyle Expectations

💛 Spiritual Practices

Worship begins off-stage. These practices anchor a worship leader’s heart in intimacy with God.

  • Daily Personal Devotion: Regular time in the Word and prayer.
“You can’t lead people where you haven’t been yourself.”
  • Private Worship: Personal worship and prayer outside of church are expected. If you are not worshiping God privately, it will eventually show up publicly.

🙇 Character & Lifestyle Expectations

It’s not enough to be technically gifted—we expect our team to live lives that reflect Christ, not just on Sunday mornings, but every day of their life.

  • Humility: Posture of servanthood rather than platform-seeking. Willing to receive correction.

  • Purity: Walking in sexual integrity, avoiding compromise in behavior, media, and relationships.

  • Integrity: Being the same person on and off stage. Truthful, accountable, and responsible.

  • Teachability: Open to feedback and growth without defensiveness.

  • Faithfulness: Committed to your word, your church.

🤝 Team Culture & Attitudes

Unity creates space for God to move. These attitudes protect the team dynamic.

  • Honor: Speaking well of leaders, team members, and the church—whether onstage or off. Do not participate in or tolerate gossip.

  • Unity: Resolving conflict biblically and protecting team trust.

  • Joyful Service: Remembering it’s a privilege to lead God’s people—no entitlement. All of us are replaceable.

  • Spirit-Led Flexibility: Willing to change direction and submit our own plans as the Holy Spirit leads.

💬 A Note from Leadership

We commit as the leader of the team to know you and care for your well-being as best as we possibly can. But we need your help—you have to communicate with us. This is a two-way relationship. We are here for each other.

🎯 Practice & Commitment Expectations

🗓️ Church Involvement & Scheduling

  • Be actively involved in the life of LifePoint Church outside of worship team.

  • Attend LifePoint regularly for at least 6 months before serving.

  • Be part of the "LifePoint Family"—not just Sunday volunteers.

  • Don’t just attend church when you’re scheduled.

  • Serve at least once a month (12 times/year minimum).

  • Be available for quarterly worship nights or special events.

  • Attend as many of the 6 bi-monthly Worship Team Gatherings as possible. (January and September are mandatory.)

  • Block out dates you can’t serve at least 2 months in advance.

  • Accept or decline service requests promptly.

  • If you decline within 10 days of your scheduled date, you’re responsible to help find a replacement.

⏰ Time Expectations

  • Practice time on Sundays is 6:15 AM (as of 2026).

  • Weekly serving time commitment is typically 6 hours on Sunday + 1–2 hours of personal practice during the week (approx. 6–8 hrs total).

🎶 Rehearsal & Preparation

  • Show up on time and fully prepared. If rehearsal starts at 6:15 AM, that means ready to play by then—not just arriving.

  • Practice your parts in advance (vocally or instrumentally).

  • Download needed apps (Loom, Planning Center) and check weekly text thread.

  • Watch the weekly Loom video service walkthrough midweek (do not wait until the weekend to check it).

📋 Role Responsibilities

Each role on the team (vocals, band, sound, slides, video) will have a clearly defined set of responsibilities. You’re expected to know and complete yours each week—both technically and spiritually.

🗣️ Feedback & Growth

  • Be open to receiving feedback with a teachable heart.

  • Be willing to ask for feedback and grow.

  • Give more positive feedback than constructive.

  • Communicate with leadership if you feel unequipped in your role.

🎉 Team Culture

  • Be intentional to celebrate your team members often and publicly.

  • Speak genuine life into one another (not fake flattery).

  • Show up ready to worship—not just to play or press buttons.

Let’s keep growing in humility, unity, and passion as we lead people before the throne of Christ. We’re so glad you’re part of this team!
